Our Story

The Equality Project was establishing in 2022 by a group of human services professionals who have worked for more than 25 years in community development, working within various non-profits and government sectors delivering outreach services to Islanders in need. Recognizing a gap in existing programs to provide wrap-around services, the team behind The Equality Project set out to create a more human-centered, connection-based approach to prevention and outreach.

Under the leadership of Michael Redmond, The Equality Project works across various sectors, including housing, mental health and addictions, justice, and child and family services, we aim to provide flexible and consistent support services to seniors, newcomers, families, young people, men, and women across Prince Edward Island.

Our Mission

To create a more equitable society by providing shelter, resources, and advocacy for the homeless and underserved communities.

We envision a world where every individual has access to safe housing, basic needs, and opportunities for a better future.

Our Approach

At The Equality Project, our approach is rooted in the belief that meaningful change comes from personalized, compassionate support that addresses the unique needs of each individual. We employ a holistic, trauma-informed methodology that recognizes the complex interplay between homelessness, mental health, addiction, and social isolation. Our goal is to empower individuals by providing flexible, client-centered services that foster resilience, promote well-being, and facilitate lasting positive outcomes.

Programs and services are designed around the following core principals:

Personalized, Client-Centered Support - We develop individualized action plans and offer one-on-one support tailored to each client's unique needs and goals.

Trauma-Informed Care - We create a safe, supportive environment that is sensitive to the effects of trauma on our clients.

Principle of Accompaniment - We walk alongside our clients throughout their journey, providing support for as long as needed without rigid timelines.

Human Connection and Relationship Building - We emphasize building strong, trusting relationships to overcome isolation and foster a sense of belonging.

Accessibility and Flexibility - We prioritize accessibility by meeting clients where they are and adapting our services to their schedules and circumstances.

Collaborative Community Engagement - We actively collaborate with local organizations to create a cohesive support network and enhance resource availability.

Prevention and Early Intervention  - We focus on upstream supports that strengthen protective factors and prevent crises.

Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusivity - We honor our clients' diverse backgrounds, fostering an environment of acceptance and understanding for effective support.
